John Grasty is a REALTOR, specializing in Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and Port Moody, and is known throughout Metro Vancouver for his leadership and advocacy on behalf of leaky condo owners since 1998.

After a career in industry where defects were measured in parts per million, John is disturbed that the home building industry and warranty insurance providers are actively lobbying senior government to limit their liability even further, rather than trying to figure out how to consistently build a homes for Canadians with exacting standards.

As President for the Consumer Advocacy and Support for Homeowners (CASH) Society for 2009, John hopes to heighten public awareness to the needs in the home building industry for proper quality standards to protect homebuyers.

As a volunteer, and being in the real estate profession, John remains closely in touch with his community. Speaking with many people daily he understands what's good for clients is good for business, so John takes a keen interest in housing related issues that affect home ownership.

John and Catharine reside in Port Moody and have two adult children and two grandchildren.

Director,

Lorelei Quiding

So far, Lorelei and her husband have lost hundreds of thousands of dollars trying to resolve construction defectives in their single family home built in 2002. Despite her ongoing legal battles and as a teacher, Lorelei felt compelled to educate homeowners and the public on BC's new housing consumer protection legislation shortfalls and the need to advance practical solutions. Before joining CASH, she corresponded with elected officials, regulatory bodies and construction related associations. This campaign sought to identify those willing to acknowledge and address the regulatory loopholes that effectively serve industry wrongdoers better than homeowners with legitimate and unresolved housing construction defects.

As a volunteer, she has been involved as a softball coach, football cheerleader coordinator, Scouts Canada leader and committee chairman, fundraising canvasser for Kinsmen, Multiple Sclerosis and as an area captain for the BC Cancer Society. She also assisted in two successful campaigns; stopping a waste transfer site from going through near the salmon bearing McLellan Creek (border of Surrey and Langley) and organized citizens to lobby local government(s) for a downsized and more closely monitored disposal and composting operation near the Nicomekl river.

Her academic and career background includes:

  • Bachelor of General Studies Degree from Simon Fraser University
  • Certified as a "English as a second language" Teacher
  • Teacher (on call) in the Langley School District #35 since 1990
