President,

Lorelei Quiding

In 2002, Lorelei and her husband were hoping to move into their brand new dream home. To their horror, the dream quickly became a nightmare and the start of a six year battle. In the meantime, the house leaked when it rained, legal funds dried up at times, forcing the Quidings to represent themselves on very complicated legal maneuverings.

In 2008, this time with legal representation, the Quidings had their 11 day trial in BC Supreme Court. They were eventually awarded the maximum amount the warranty provider is required to pay under the current Homeowner Protection Act ($200,000.00) and some court costs minus previously paid out destructive, exploratory work. A further judgment against the builder may not be recoverable or financially viable to pursue since the company has dissolved.

The combination of the long drawn out legal process, erosion of their quality of life and expenses that will never be recoverable hardly makes this judgment feel like a victory.  The house still hasn’t been fixed because the Quidings do not have enough money to complete the repairs.

As a teacher, Lorelei feels compelled to educate homeowners, the public and government(s) on the shortfalls of BC's new housing consumer protection legislation and the need for practical solutions.

As a volunteer, she has also been involved as a softball coach, football cheerleader coordinator, Scouts Canada leader and committee chairman, fundraising canvasser for Kinsmen, Multiple Sclerosis and as an area captain for the BC Cancer Society. She assisted in two successful campaigns; stopping a waste transfer site from going through near the salmon bearing McLellan Creek (border of Surrey and Langley) and organized citizens to lobby local government(s) for a downsized and more closely monitored disposal and composting operation near the Nicomekl river. Lorelei also canvassed her Cloverdale neighbourhood on the news that a second waste station was proposed for the vicinity.

Her academic and career background includes:

  • Bachelor of General Studies Degree from Simon Fraser University
  • Certified as a "English as a second language" Teacher
  • Teacher (on call) in the Langley School District #35 since 1990
